Valencia coach slams Rodri: 'Comments lacking respect'

Valencia head coach Carlos Corberán has strongly criticized Barcelona midfielder Rodri's controversial comments. In a press conference ahead of the match against Sevilla, Corberán called Rodri's words 'completely unfortunate' and stated they did not come from a place of respect for fellow professionals. "They are completely unfortunate words, they do not come from respect for colleagues in the profession," Corberán said when directly asked about the Spanish midfielder's remarks. He made it clear that Valencia expected a rectification after the controversy. The situation escalated to the point where Valencia captain José Luis Gayà took the initiative to contact Rodri. Subsequently, the Barcelona player issued a public apology, which was accepted by the Valencia camp. "Rodri has offered a public apology, we accept it and understand it is appropriate," Corberán explained. The coach also recalled that Rodri had previously been well received at Mestalla, where fans even recognized him after his successes with the Spanish national team. Still, he reiterated his disagreement: "We accept the apology because it is the least that can be expected." Beyond the Rodri episode, Corberán also had to answer questions about his future ahead of the visit to Sevilla at Sánchez Pizjuán. He avoided speculation about a possible dismissal, insisting he is solely focused on delivering a good performance.
